Ultisols are soil that have low soil acidity, organic matter and low macro nutrients and have low
availability of P nutrients. The nutrient P plays an important role in plant growth, which is to help plant
vegetative growth. Therefore, to improve soil quality, such as the physical and biological properties of
ultisol soil, it requires a proper soil management, one of which is using compost. The compost used in
this study uses vegetable waste obtained from the MMTC market and Medan's Aksara market. By
making compost using vegetable waste, it is hoped that it will reduce environmental pollution. The
purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the application of market waste compost and NPK
compound fertilizer (16-16-16) on vegetative growth and uptake of P nutrients in oil palm nurseries on
Ultisol soil. This research was conducted in the nursery area of the Medan Agricultural College of
Agribusiness and the Central Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra.
The research time was started from December to July 2020. This study used a randomized block
design (RAK) with 2 factors, namely Factor 1 Organic Compost for Market Waste and Factor 2,
namely Compound Fertilizer (NPK) 16:16:16 with 3x replications with the number of plants per plot of
2 plants, the total number of polybags is 54 polybags. Parameter testing is compiled a list of Variance
Scan or Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with a level of 5% and 1% and followed by Duncan's Multiple
Range Test (DMRT) at the 5% level. The results showed that the treatment of organic market waste
compost and compound fertilizers had a significant effect on the observed parameters such as
seedling height (cm), number of leaves (strands), root wet weight (gr), root dry weight (cm), shoot wet
weight (gr). , crown dry weight (gr). and P nutrient uptake (%). And not real in the circumference of the
stem (cm).
